3 Ways to Slay : Graphic tee | Feat. My Beautiful Fluff & a special guest

Here at EGC, I believe that style is what you make of it. So many stylists in training have a long list of don'ts and a short list of do's. It's time to change it up and embrace the potential in everything you wear. What better way to do that than with one of the most under styled items in your closet-- the graphic tee.  Most just try on a graphic tee with a pair of jean and call it a day. With this 3W2S I hope to inspire you to more than a pair of jeans for your next comfy casual ensemble. I chose to style this funky tee from my fave at My Beautiful Fluff. Let's scroll and slay!

For this first look, I decided to dress up the graphic tee with a simple culottes /turban combo. This is a great ensemble for if you are running errands or even Casual Friday at the office. Opting for a alternative bottom that isn't denim allows the tee to look less casual and more glam. Think of a head wrap or ornate head band in place of a turban. Throw on a blazer for a dress casual look. My special guest (aka my niece Delilah) fell in love with the I Love my Fluff tote and stepped in for the slay as well.lol.

With this 2nd look, I simply switched out bottoms and earrings. It made all the difference. Who said a graphic tea had to be casual. Throw on a block midi skirt and turn it glam. It's all in what you make it. It doesn't take much except a willingness to see more in the clothes you wear than what seems safe and familiar. Throw on some cute heels and you're ready for a night on the town, or at least Chic fil A with your niece after a photo shoot. If you want more flair, try a circle skirt.

Now for the finale-- I couldn't possibly leave Delilah out of the fun. Style versatility can never start to early. To make this tee both stylish and 13 year old friendly, I thought to keep it simple. A pair of legging, Retro Skater earrings, sparkly flats and that radiant smile do all the work. If you want your tween to have a bit more pizazz, headwear is the way to go. Delilah already has a one sided pinned do, but the hat from look 2 would still work well.

Take these 3 looks and apply them to your own closet. Take  that graphic tee (from My Beautiful Fluff if you dare) and make it work like it never has before.  Which look was your favorite? Let me know in the comments below.

Oscars 2018 Red Carpet Looks | In the news

The Oscars 2018  happened this Sunday, and the Red carpet didn't disappoint. I noticed quite a few trends that popped up on the red carpet. Let's see the latest and greatest come together for a night of fashion and art.

The stars showed up and showed out in white! I loved the display of crisp whites was bolstered by expert construction. Jane Fonda wowed in a fitted gown that had a drastic cut out neckline. She is a good example of never letting age dictate having a striking style. Janet mock's whimsical train polished her mermaid gown. This look is perfect for you gems that have boxier frames. Mary J Blige didn't disappoint with this detailed gown. Her pear shaped frame shined with the constructed draping up top that accentuated her frame. If you are a fuller bottomed woman like Mary, follow her lead and focus the detailed from bust to hip.

The ladies weren't alone on the best dressed list this year. The men definitely stepped up their game. Armie Hammer took a risk with his full burgundy velvet suit. The risk paid off. It offered a modern twist on the sometimes mundane world of tuxedos. Chadwick Bose man updated the tuxedo look with decorated lapels on an all black look. The added length of the jacket breathes life into the already sharp look.

Bling, feathers, flounce and more were on the menu for fashion. These gems took simple silhouettes to the next level with maximum texture. Zendaya shines, as usual, with a one sleeve draped gown. I love how she has fun with style while still having that touch of classic style. Try this in your own style journey by adding a texture to a simple silhouette . Get a sequined a line skirt; a velvet blouse.

Best Jeans for Every Body Type Feat. My Beautiful Fluff Boutique

Jeans are a staple in every closet no matter the diva, style or personality. But all jeans aren't created equal or the same. Finding the right pair of jeans can be overwhelming, but your Style BFF is here to help. Today I'll share the best jeans for every body type and match them with my top picks from the fabulous My Beautiful Fluff boutique so you'll never have to guess again.

Let's start with body types. There are 5 basic body types: Hourglass, Apple, Licorice (straight), Inverted Triangle and Pear. NOTE: Body types have nothing to do with  size. You can be an hourglass at a size 4 or size 44. These body types are referring to the shape and contour of your body. Each body type has specific characteristics that inform you on how how clothes will fit. When it comes to jeans, this is paramount.

Now that we have named the body types, we'll discuss them in detail and pick the best way to accentuate each one.

Your body is synonymous is symmetry. Most of your work is done, so jeans are usually an issue when made a bit boxy. Choose silhouettes that accommodates your fuller hips and thighs.

High waist jeans are an absolute must. Not wearing jeans that define your waist will cause your clothes to bunch it places it shouldn't. Also aim for fuller jeans to keep the balance of your already portioned body intact. If you want to spice it up, try a cropped jean in a darker wash. Pair them with the Curvaceous Curls tee from My Beautiful Fluff and voila!

Take some style inspo from the look to the right for your hourglass shape and grab one of my top jean picks below.

As an apple body type, you often have to focus on your tummy. I offer a different perspective-- No that the tummy will be there and celebrate everything else. You have great legs, so your show that off. You're slimmer in the hips, so you will actually have an easier time with jeans if you know what to look for.

Aim for a mid rise Jean. The will guarantee that the jeans are high enough to pull over your hips and low enough to not cut deep into your belly and create more bulge. Choose a thicker jean or a skinny jean to play up those beautiful legs. Pair them with the Signature Tank from My Beautiful Fluff and a blazer for effortless chic.

You have complete symmetry head to toe, so finding a pair of jeans will be straight forward. KEEP YOUR SYMMETRY. You have the best "problem"-- that everything is so even. Play that up with a simple pair of jeans. If you want something a little flashier, make sure you compliment that head to toe.

Try a low rise cuffed jean that is fuller at the bottom. It will not only add volume without bulk, it will give your overall silhouette some dimension. Pair it with a Kiss my Fluff tee to accentuate your symmetry.

Take some style inspo from the look to the right for your licorice shape and grab one of my top jean picks below.

Pic 1 | Pic 2 | Pic 3

Your strong features shine in a great top, but jeans may leave you frustrated. In your case more is more is more. Embrace your individuality and let it shine through.

Try ripped, acid wash and lighter wash jeans. It will add a fullness on the bottom that is naturally at the top. Try fuller cut cuffed jean for a chic twist on your jeans. Pair it with the Black and White baseball tee and a duster.

Take some style inspo from the look to the right for your Inverted Triangle and grab one of my top jean picks below.

Your curvy figure usually has problems with jeans fitting your hips and waist at the same time. While there are jean companies that cater to your curves, a tailor may be your best option. Most jeans are made with the licorice or inverted triangle body type. Don't be discouraged. It just means digging a little harder or coming to you style BFF for more answers.

Try a fuller cut jean in a darker wash to balance a fuller mid section and smaller top. If you want a lighter wash, try boot cut. You want to make above and below the hip area seem as full as the hip area. Add a Keep Calm and Love Your Fluff tee and you're all set!

Take some style inspo from the look to the right for your Pear shape and grab one of my top jean picks below.

A graphic tee and jeans are a classic combo that will never go out of style. Invest in a great pair of jeans and grab a tee from My Beautiful Fluff for a great go to for virtually every occasion from super casual to semi formal.

Premme releases Spring 2018 collection | In the News

The Smash hit Plus size brand Premme just released their Spring 2018 offerings. It's only been about 2 weeks and some items are already sold out. Keep scrolling to see some of my top picks. Click on any picture to take you to the product page.

Jess Jumpsuit

Overall, I think they got black and white right. I was surprised that they didn't go with the typical burst of color most lines do during spring. I think it's a smart move to put out pieces that are in classic colors in simple cuts to build up versatility.  I have my eye out for the jumpsuit and moto jacket.

Top 3 misconceptions about your bodies & clothes | STYLE ADVICE

In my personal stylist journey I have met a plethora of women from all walks of life, experiences and tastes. But there are a few commonalities that, no matter your background, are consistently plagues most. I've decided to pluck and address the top three untrue grievances women hold against their bodies and their style.

1. ) Your body is shaped too weird to properly dress.

This is the top grievance that I work tirelessly to eradicate. Every body is beautiful and uniquely made. That does not mean that it is impossible to dress. What IS impossible to dress is self hate and complacency. That is why as a stylist, I actively change the approach to how you view it. Your body isn't weird, THE FASHION INDUSTRY IS. There is no standard sizing system, the size range most women fall in is sold as specialty sizing (AKA PLUS SIZE) and less than 1% of all clothing retailers are consistently advertised above a regional scale. All of this in an effort to sale you a false bill of goods that your body is weird and hard to accommodate. Any seamstress, tailor will tell you different. Mass produced clothes aren't meant to fit you perfectly. They are meant to fit as many people relatively acceptable. Take the time to learn your body and how it's made and you will soon learn of its beauty as a standard that clothes must live up to. Change the narrative.

2. ) Shopping online is too hard and not worth the risk.

Nothing could be further from the truth. And with many malls and standalone stores closing at alarming rates nationwide, it may soon be your only option. I think it's harder to shop in person for most people. Think about it--unless you're in a big city, you as a plus size woman usually have maybe 3 choices--Torrid, Ashley Stewart and JC Penny. Having access to the regional pickings of three places is limiting. You shouldn't accept that as the be all, end all. There are literally thousands of websites for Plus size women covering every need you can't find locally. Plus there are a ridiculous amount of incentives to shopping the store online that aren't offered in person. (That post is coming soon) Do a quick google search or hit up your style BFF who already has dozens or websites organized to fit your needs. (Hint Hint: Click here)

3. ) Body shapes only apply to smaller bodies.

One of the first questions I ask anyone I work with is "What are your measurements and body type". 9 times out of 10 the answers are "I don't know my measurements and I use to be a(n) _____ when I was smaller. " The problem with this statement is thinking larger bodies do not hold there inherent shape. Usually if you are round larger, you were that way smaller. Yes weight shifts, but you can still be a larger version of the same shape. There are just as many hourglass beauties at a size 28 as there are at a size 8. The number on your tag is irrelevant to how your body is naturally formed. You can have the same body type of your younger self, there is just a little more surface area to work with. For example both Salma Hayek and Oprah Winfrey are the same body type. They both execute exquisite style by working with and not against their natural forms.

If any of these misconceptions resonate with you, it's time to revamp. Ask your self a few questions: What do I notice about my body? What do I love about my body? How can I learn more about my body in order to accentuate not only my form, but my personality. If you need a little more help, contact me @ contact@egchronicles.com . Let's talk about how to get you in the road to fabulous.

OOTD 12.10.17- Ripping and Runway

Let's be honest--everyday can't be about lounging and relaxing. There is work to do and empires to build. Even during holiday season, the to do list can grow fast--get presents, plan parties, unexpected meet ups with out of town relatives--holiday season is in full swing. But running errands doesn't mean you have to look run over. Let's get into this holiday errand ensemble.

Screen Shot 2017-12-02 at 3.01.38 PM.png

Duster: Similar| Top: Similar | Jeans: Similar | Shoes: Similar

Take your t-shirt and jeans to the next level with a few tweaks. Opt for a simple embellishment on the jeans like the shredded hem or even a rare wash. Jeans universal for the ability to be comfy and chic. Combine that with another staple--the white turtleneck. Even here in Florida it's a crisp 60, so a turtle neck can come in handy. Dusters are the new layering accessory, so use it and use it well. Now to accessorize. A cute headband is casual chic without effort. It can also give you some function by keeping a cute pair of shades at bay. To top it off, grab a pair of silver oxford---they are very on trend and a welcome update to a shoe usually percieved as stuffy.

Running errands never looked so chic, right? What piece is your favorite from the ensemble? Let me know in the comments!

Easy Shoe Hacks

Shoes were the last part of my style for fully form, so it was admittedly my weakest point. But I have created a system for all of my shoes that have saved me time, money and calluses. Interested? Keep scrolling.

This is a quick fix process that all shoes I wear must go through before I wear them. I often find that I don't have time to gradually break them in because the weather calls for an appropriate shoe. I simply fill a small ziplock bag halfway with water and insert it into the shoe. Freeze over night and voila! they are loosened just enough for you to walk comfortably without developing calluses.

Sometimes the rain gets the best of you and the inside of your shoes get wet. And nothing is worse than a shoe that has a damp smell because of sweaty feet/socks. Easy solution? Sprinkle a teaspoon of baking soda in the bottom of the shoe and place one medium piece of crumpled newspaper inside. let it stay overnight and by morning the shoe will dry and odorless.

Investing in shoe forms is a way to save you money and time. Not only do they protect shoes from retaining moisture, but they also help leather shoes from cracking while keeping its form longer. This is such a invaluable tool for my shoe collection. I have wide fat feet and they often breakdown the form of my shoes shortly after wearing them . That is no longer the case since I have found shoes forms. My favorite shoe forms are from Bed Bath & Beyond, found here.

These are just a few of the tips you can use to reform your own shoe collection. If you have any other tips you have found useful, feel free to leave them in the comment section below.

Ciao for now,

Project Runway Ashley Tipton drops JC Penny to debut own line | IN THE NEWS

Ashley Nell Tipton is showing no signs of slowing down after her meteoric rise to proninence. At the top of the month, Ashley Nell Tipton Debut her own independent line on her website.

This comes as a surprise to many, due to her successful partner ship with JC Penny. So why the sudden departure? According to Tiption, " Working with JCPenney was quite the experience! But at the end of the day, they’re a corporation, so there were a lot of hands-on things and lots of people approvals had to go through." So she opted out and created her own unique pieces for Fall '17. The overall feel seems to be made for the trendy gal who likes a bit of edge. There are about 25 pieces in the entire Fall collection, nine of them going over $100. Check out some of the other pieces below and  the full collection here.

What do you think of Ms. Tipton's independent line? Do you prefer this line or her collaboration with JC Penny? Let em know!

OOTD 11.03.17

I want to give a little style inspiration for all the happenings of life. As life progresses, so should your style. I thought maybe this December, we would style for all types of holiday gatherings-- company parties at the job, relaxing with friends and family, finishing some holiday shopping or even anticipating new years. Today's look is perfect for a holiday party without much fuss.

Cropped sweater-- Diesel ,  similar  | Metallic skirt-- Harrods ,   similar  | Cocktail Ring -- DFV , similar  | Necklace-- David Yurman , similar  | Purse-- similar  | Shoes--  similar , similar

Cropped sweater-- Dieselsimilar | Metallic skirt-- Harrods,  similar | Cocktail Ring -- DFV, similar | Necklace-- David Yurman, similar | Purse-- similar | Shoes-- similar, similar

If you are looking for comfort, fun and an understated sly, look no further. Dressing up never means anything too flashy. A well placed contrast of fabric will do the trick. I suggest metallic or velvet this season like this outfit's focal point-- the metallic skirt. It moves easily, is a touch of glam and easy to style. I decided to style with classic black because nearly everyone has black and with an already established focal piece, you can afford to keep it simple.

When styling metallics, go for simplicity and texture. The combo is sure to always make an impact. It's a matter of keeping it simple while keeping functionality in mind. Thats why I paired a costume ring and necklace. Nothing too fussy. The heels are of course optional. If you want to be on trend a mule or embellished loafer would also work.  So when you're eyeing the snack table at the office party, or the desert table at the family Christmas dinner, sashay a little harder and give everyone a show. :c)

Ciao for now

Shein debuts Plus size section |IN THE NEWS

If you have been with me for a while you know this one thing to be true-- I LOVE SHEIN.COM. It's one of the best fast fashion sites for the plus size diva. The only problem, before now, was that it was Asian based in sizing which meant that it ran small. That has all changed since debuting its own plus size section. It's an admittedly smaller section, but so far, it's so good! Scroll for my top picks and click the pieces you're most interested in.

Scalloped Dress (I would wear this as a top)

The overall looks from the section gives you a vibe of Forever21 meets River Island. It has a great balance of trend and classics. It does have some typical "big girl" picks, but there are actually pieces that are fly that aren't in the standard section. Go figure.

Gold foil dress

Bell Sleeve top

Losse Jumpsuit

What I love most about this is that it offers everything from formal pieces to ultra casual. It allows the plus size diva to actually have options. The sizing still needs to improve, but it goes up to about a size 20/22 or 4XL. They also give you the model's measurements which is the transparency that many online shoppers long for. You can finally see how the clothes fit what body.

Overall I give them a solid 8 out of 10 overall. Y'all might see me in a few of these picks real soon. 👀 With everything under $50, you can't beat the styles. Which piece was your favorite? Let me know in the comments.

The best kept beauty serum secret you keep in your pantry

In the quest for ever glowing skin and popping curls, I ran across a surprising gem that has paid dividends for my skin and hair. What is it you may ask? Rice water. YES.RICE WATER. Take some time and let it sink in sis. I know I did. I thought I had tripped upon the weird part of the internet, but alas I had not.

Originally started and perfected in a variety of Asian cultures, rice water is a beauty staple for those who want beautiful skin and bouncy tresses. So what are some of the benefits?

  • Smoother skin
  • Smaller pores
  • Repair damaged hair cuticles with natural proteins
  • Reduce inflammation
  • Increased hair growth production
  • Blemish reducer
  • Regenerates healthy skin cell production

The best part of it all? You only need uncooked rice and water. There are a few methods that can be employed depending on the amount of work you want to put in.

I found the best recipes and directions from Natural Living Ideas included below

The boiled rice water method

If you want to make a batch of rice water to use all week long in its diluted forms, such as for a facial wash or hair rinse, prepare rice as you normally would, but use two to three times the amount of water the recipe calls for. Once the rice has cooked, strain it out. The leftover water will contain a high concentration of nutrients, but you don’t need to use it at full strength. Instead, dilute about 3 tablespoons of the concentrated rice water into a cup of clean water, which should result in just a slightly milky-looking mixture. Store it in the refrigerator in a covered container. It will last for up to one week.

No-boil quick method

If you’re short on time, you can just add a half-cup of rice to two cups of water and allow it to sit for 15 minutes. Strain the rice, and then use the remaining rice water to wash your hair, face or both.

Fermented rice water

If you have a little more time, consider making fermented rice water as it’s believed to be the most effective method of all due to the pH change that occurs during the fermentation process. Fermenting the rice water helps to bring its pH more closely in line to the natural pH of hair, and results in the release of a chemical known as pitera which may promote cell regeneration. While it takes a few extra steps, the results are worth it.

To make it, first follow the no-boil quick method above, but let it sit in a jar at room temperature for about two days – if you live in a warm climate, the fermentation process may be complete in just one day. You’ll know it’s ready when the rice water smells slightly sour. At that point, you can use it to rinse your hair, or as a face wash after diluting with one to two cups of warm water first. Store the remaining solution in the refrigerator.

My favorite technique is the boil method. It works like the best deep conditioner and serum all in one. I saw a difference immediately. My hair was soft, manageable and didn't have any tangles, my main source of hair frustration. AND.MY.SKIN. OMG. After only 3 days I noticed my skin had a toughness that was different than I usually experience. I would wake up with a glow that wasn't greasy.

Will you try this not so new beauty serum? It's inexpensive, low maintenance and best of all, works like a dream. Let me know which way you want to try it in the comments.

Look at that glow! And it ain't sweat.lol

Blazing the office: Top blazer/Cardigan picks for workwear

When most women think office wear, they think stiff grey and black pants suits with lots of structure and scants of style. No ma'am ! You can have your own version of a power suit everyday and still be effortless chic. To prove that, we start at the pillar of office wear-- The blazer. It's a staple that is almost a non negotiable part of the office standard. Instead of falling into the same blasé blazer routine, take a few of my current fave finds and spice your Fall office wear with style. Keep scrolling for links.

Old Navy

Pyramid Collection

The first way to break out of the Blazer rut is to change up the color. Call me biased, but green is a great alternative color to blue, black and grey. If you don't want to venture out into hues too bright, opt for an olive or deep green. Each of these picks offer a casual chic touch that can still be dressed up with a crips button up and slacks.

If you are more of a classic grey and black ind of women, no worries. You can still switch it up without much work. Opt for classic prints like grid patterns or a different texture. The smallest changes can add the biggest punch. All of the options offer another new twist--length. Let go of the options that hit you at the hips. For many body types it creates a stumpy look and quickly becomes unflattering. The new standard is all about long silhouettes that draw to longer lines  and a more polished look. Perfect for on or off the clock .

Which piece from the group is your favorite? Let me know in the comments and grab any one of these today.

White House Black Market debuts Plus Size | IN THE NEWS

On October 24, White House Black Market tossed their hat in the Plus Size ring with the release of a Plus Size line . According to the company, “From day one, White House Black Market has been about women — it’s a brand born of women, led by women and dedicated to serving women — so it was a natural fit to expand into Plus so they can make every woman feel confident and powerful to take on their day,” After viewing what they have to offer, I will say that they may be an up and coming contender in the Plus Size arena. Keep Scrolling for my top picks and details.

Pull Over Sweater

Pull Over Sweater

The Plus Size line is offered exclusively online (Insert eye roll) but it goes up to a size 24W , which translate to usually size 26 or even a smaller 28. The price range is lower to mid level range, with the most expensive piece being $226. the overall feel of the collection is definitely Fall and Holiday inspired.

Rose Print Fit-N-Flair Dress

Rose Print Fit-N-Flair Dress

Fringe Dress

Fringe Dress

Pros: I appreciated that they tapped into some of the current trends this season with the velvet, fall florals and reds. They also have multiple cuts of pants and not just one type of dress. The effort and true variety is refreshing. They also have a pretty good balance between standard , classic cuts and playfully styling the trends.

Faux collar wrap vest

Faux collar wrap vest

Cons: Some of the cuts were not aligned with the usual you expect from WHBM, which is more of a tailored polished look similar to Talbots. I'm also weary of some of the use of florals. I love the red rose print, but the other florals are honestly borderline scream "ugly big girl clothes".

Deconstructed Sequin Jeans

Overall I am pleased that a quality brand like WHBM is offering more inclusive pieces for plus size women. This new trend of expanding into larger sizes, is promising to me and you should check out the rest of the pieces here. Let me know which one was your favorite.
